Tips for Your First Ride on the Liberty Ferry
by New York Water Tours - September 25, 2017
You can’t call a visit of New York City complete with taking advantage of the Statue of Liberty experience. The absolute best way to check out the Statue is via one of one of the Liberty Cruises, as these will get you up close and personal to Lady Liberty while showing you the statue’s best angles. If you haven’t ridden the Liberty ferry before, then keep the following tips in mind.
Check the Schedule
The Liberty ferry leaves at regular intervals, so you should be able to check out the Statue of Liberty from the water at nearly any time of the day. That being said, it is worth checking the schedule ahead of time since you don’t want to end up waiting for an hour for the next statue cruise. To avoid this potential problem, just check the Statue of Liberty cruise schedule; then, you can plan other activities around it.
Know Where It Leaves and Arrives From
In addition to knowing the Statue of Liberty cruise schedule, you should make certain you know where exactly it leaves from. There are a few different Statue of Liberty cruise choices, and some leave from slightly different ports. You don’t want to show up at the wrong time but at the right port; your plans will be ruined! Just pay attention to the location when you buy your Statue of Liberty ferry tickets. That should be printed on the ticket as well for convenience.
Have Your Camera Ready!
This should go without saying, but have your camera ready throughout your Statue of Liberty ferry ride. While the statue is the main attraction of this excursion, it is not the only thing you will see. You’ll want to snap pictures of the skyline, specific features like the famous bridges, and more, so be ready.
Plan Which Side to Stand On
Although you hope the Liberty ferry you take is reasonably empty, it can get very crowded during the tourist season. Because of this, the best views require planning, and you are unlikely to be able to get a spot right on the edge closest to the statue if you spend the rest of the boat ride on the other side. This means that before you get on the boat, you should make sure you know which side you want to stand on. Don’t get too concerned, however; the boat will take you back as well so you get another chance for views.
Bring Protection from Weather
Finally, don’t forget to consider the weather when checking the Statue of Liberty cruise schedule. If it is warm outside, bring sunscreen and plenty of water. If it’s cold, wear the appropriate coat. After all, you will likely be on the ferry’s deck a great deal.
