Cowabunga, dude! We’ve create a list of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ favorite pizza toppings from the classic TV show, and boy, are they weird! While other characters from Garfield to Scooby-Doo have enjoyed a slice or two, these denizens of the New York City sewers are possibly the biggest fictional fanatics of New York’s favorite food. TMNT and pizza go together about as well as peanut butter and … clams?!

The four muscled ninjutsu apprentices named after famous Renaissance artists (Michelangelo, Donatello, Leonardo, and Raphael) have always been designed to have a love for the staple food of NYC. “They love truth, justice, and a slice of pizza,” said their marketing director, Richard Sallis, and you can spot Ninja Turtles eating pizza in most of the early episodes.

What Did the Ninja Turtles Eat?

When these baby turtles were growing up, they enjoyed algae and sewer creatures, but once they mutated into the wise-cracking foursome we have today, they started enjoying pizza, often having it delivered to their sewer home in lower Manhattan. Perhaps that’s why the Ninja Turtles pizza toppings often have slimy stuff like anchovies and sardines. But they don’t only eat pizza! They also love pizza shakes and pizza soups, too!

What Brand of Pizza Did the Ninja Turtles Eat?

Was it Domino’s? Was it Pizza Hut? It was both, at different times. The 1990 film featured Domino’s, and the Coming Out of Their Shells Tour featured a Pizza Hut deal. When the 2014 movie came out, the latter offered official TMNT Pizza Hut toppings, with a different pizza for each character. (Raphael’s, which had pepperoni, sausage, bacon, and beef, was the crowd favorite.)

Can We Have Our Own Version of a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Pizza?

Peter Pham at Foodbeast created his own TMNT pizza recipes, to somewhat mixed results! You can also try ordering the weird concoctions at these restaurants recognized by Bon Appétit. Let’s just say that we don’t condone any of these gastrointestinal atrocities, but we wish you the best of luck! Who knows? Perhaps downing anchovy and hot fudge on pizza dough is the secret to becoming a Ninja Turtle. Pizza creations can be a lot of fun, or you can just visit NYC and have a better slice near the Turtles’ hometown in person!
